EDOKOMON- Japanese Kimono Printing Process

: In Edo era, the people were prohibited from wearing showy kimono. Therefore the kimono of small pattern to look plain in a long distance was popular. The meanings of the pattern are different each. It is said that it is smart (粋 iki)" to wear the kimono of the pattern that accepted the situation.

The video is in Japanese. It shows good footage of how kimono fabric is prepared using silk-screening, printing and dyeing.
